The graph above is the ranking results achieved for one of our clients.

Explained:

On the 14th of August (prior their participation as exclusive partner of one of our Pet Education Awareness campaigns) their website was positioned at number 18 in Google's search engine results (near the bottom of page 2).

Roll on the launch of our campaign and what we see is a somewhat dramatic jump up to top end of page 1.

The keyword term we are tracking here also happens to be a very competitive and desirable one.

In short, our education campaigns work. Find out more if we can do something similar for your brand.

K9 Magazine, a leading lifestyle publication for dog lovers, has produced a guide for dog owners who may be unwittingly shortening the life expectancy of their beloved pets through a lack of portion control when feeding.

Animal experts such as the Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan and TV trainer Victoria Stilwell have all commented on the importance of not overfeeding pet dogs.

Canine obesity has become a rising problem over the past few decades as dog waistlines have expanded due to the dual problem of taking in too many calories and not being given the opportunity to expend them through exercise.

K9 Magazine's guide to portion control in dog food, touches on the health implications of over-feeding.

Publisher and editor, Ryan O'Meara, explains:

"Without question, over feeding and lack of suitable levels of physical exertion are the leading cause of obesity in dogs (as well as people).

For many dog owners, feeding the right portion size for their dogs is something left to a fairly non scientific approach of measuring out enough food to fill the bowl. In fact, there are many owners (because I used to be one of them) who find it hard to put a bowl of dog food down if it’s not positively full to the brim, this despite the fact that different types of dog food have completely different nutritional components."

He's joined in this view by dog experts Cesar Millan and Victoria Stilwell, both of whom have publicly spoken about the problem of dog obesity. Millan says:

“If dogs ran the world, the Canine Café would be open 24 hours a day. Most dogs love to eat. And eat. And eat some more. But though it’s tempting to show your love with extra helpings, or by making food available all day, overfeeding does no dog any favours. (Overweight pets can suffer from the same ailments as hefty -humans do.) There is no precise answer as far as how much to feed a dog, -because caloric needs vary with size (a Chihuahua doesn’t chow down like a -Mastiff), age, and activity level. One rule of thumb is that if Sir Barksalot is -energetic and keeping his figure trim, he’s probably eating the right amount. Food packaging offers recommendations, but remember: Those are just guidelines."

According to animal charity, the PDSA, who have mapped the UK's fat pet population:

"A fit dog lives longer. Obesity amongst pet dogs is a growing problem. If a dog is overweight it puts extra strain on various parts of the body and may well shorten the dog’s life.

A tendency toward obesity in dogs stems from the fact that many popular diets are usually significantly higher in carbohydrate than protein."

More than 6 in 10 dog owners are unaware of the link between dog behaviour and diet according to a new survey from the publisher of K9 Magazine.

The study, which polled more than 1,000 owners, revealed more than half of all dog owners tended to keep their dog on the same diet, both in terms of volume, calories and nutritional qualities, regardless of their lifestage – with the exception of puppies.

It's now a well established fact that diet has a direct correlation on behaviour and, as dogs age, their nutritional requirements differ.

In a recent article on feeding older dogs on the website DogNutritionGuide.co.uk, it was explained:

"Feeding older dogs doesn’t have to mean drastic changes. Obesity is possibly the most common health related problem to affect dogs as they get older. An overweight dog is an unhappy dog and subsequent health problems can drastically reduce a dog’s life and render his later years void of any real quality. The key is to be aware of nutritional requirement changes when feeding older dogs, adjust slowly and gradually and keep on top of your older dog’s specific feeding requirements on a regular basis."

Ryan O'Meara, K9 Magazine editor and a former dog trainer, added:

"I speak with personal experience on this, matching a dog's diet to their age, breed and lifestyle is so incredibly important. I have seen in the case of one of my own dogs the difference it can make. Feeding too much or not enough of certain nutritional elements can have a hugely significant impact on the way the dog behaves and their general all round health."

Fats are very beneficial, but it can become a concern when the dog eats too much of it. Too much fuel in the dog’s body, regardless of where it came from, is converted into body fat, which is then stored in the body. Too much fat in the body results in obesity and other conditions that are related to obesity such as diabetes, canine osteoarthritis, and heart disease.

For older dogs this is particularly true.

As dogs age their vital organs work differently. Too much protein can cause a strain on the kidneys and other functions. Too many calories can lead to weight gain and too much fat can also lead to a previously healthy dog becoming obese.

As dogs get older their joints require more care and their activities levels tend to decline.

K9 Magazine advises dog owners to seek a consultation with their vet to discuss the appropriate nutritional plans for their dogs as they get older.

K9 Magazine, the digital publication for modern dog lovers, is echoing the warnings from the Dog's Trust, Britain's leading dog charity, in calling for all dog owners to be on their guard against chocolate poisoning in dogs over the Easter period.

Most dog owners are now aware that chocolate has the capacity to seriously harm or even kill our greedy, canine pals. Many vets experience calls from dog owners who are panic stricken because their pet has eaten a bar of chocolate by mistake or somebody has given their dog some chocolate without realising the potential harm it can do.

Ryan O'Meara of K9 Magazine, advises:

"A single, shop purchased bar of chocolate is not going to kill your dog. It’s unlikely it would even harm the dog in any great deal so let’s not get too anxious.

Your dog has to ingest quite a bit of chocolate to feel any negative effects. It is the caffeine and bromethalin in chocolate that is poisonous to your dog. Dark baker’s chocolate is most toxic to your dog since it contains a high amount of caffeine and bromethalin. Milk chocolate and white chocolate have lower amounts of caffeine."

The Dogs Trust charity has issued its own advice, calling on owners to watch out for chocolate consumption by dogs.

“Apart from the risks of obesity and the obvious dangers of eating the foil wrapping, the biggest risk of eating human chocolate is poisoning, resulting in an emergency dash to the vet and sadly even death.

Chocolate contains theobromine, which, although tolerated by humans, is extremely toxic to man’s best friend. The darker the chocolate, the greater the amount of theobromine. Toxic doses vary according to the size of dog and cocoa solid content of the chocolate. As a rough guide, Dogs Trust estimates that 50g of plain chocolate could be enough to kill a small dog, such as a Yorkshire Terrier*, while just 400g could be enough to kill an average size dog.”

Having an understanding of essential first aid for dogs is something that K9 Magazine advises all dog owners to become familiar with

K9 Magazine, a digital lifestyle magazine for modern dog lovers, has stepped up to help meet the increasing demand from its readers who are interested in moving abroad with dogs.

Editor and publisher Ryan O'Meara explains:

"Over the past 5 years we have seen a real rise in the number of readers who have asked us for information on what to do when moving overseas with their dogs. This trend reflects global movement as more and more people seek to experience alternative lifestyles in foreign lands. The big difference now though is, particularly for British dog owners, it is more accessible than ever for dog owners to travel abroad with their pets in tow thanks to the relaxation of regulations under the Pet Travel Scheme."

The Pet Travel Scheme is the system that allows pet dogs, cats and ferrets to enter the UK without quarantine as long as they meet the rules and people in the UK to take their dogs, cats and ferrets to other countries and territories, and return with them to the UK without the need for quarantine.

For dog owners thinking of moving overseas with their pets, K9 Magazine advises to focus on four main areas of research:

 - Climate

 - Culture

 - Convenience

 - Location

 Further, the guide explains:

"It is imperative to bear in mind that other countries, even those in the EU have very different laws regarding property and acquisition. It's also important to become familiar with local laws and by-laws as they relate to dogs and people. Some countries have different laws on certain types of dogs and pet ownership regulations change from country to country."

Are Britain's dogs reaching their full potential? That's the question poised by editors at K9 Magazine, the modern lifestyle magazine for dog lovers.

The magazine polled 1,000 dog owners and learned that as many as 1 in 3 dog owners could make some very small adjustments to their dog's lifestyles and gain incrementally positive results in health, behaviour and well-being.

Common issues such as proper dog nutrition, monitoring dog obesity levels and even frequency of dog worming were all areas identified as having room for improvement.

Charles Vincent, a company spokesman, says:

"Use your dog's "voice" to help you with the training process. A dog's bark or whine can tell you a lot about their mood and what they want. Paying attention and responding to their signals will help your pet be happier and more successful during training. You may also want to target excessive barking as part of your training program.

If you are trying to prevent your dog from begging, the best thing to do is ignore the begging completely. Don't respond either positively, with a treat or petting, or negatively, by shouting. Your dog will learn quickly and remember for a long time that the begging ended up with you paying attention to the dog."

K9 Magazine is offering free tips and dog ownership advice via a series of special reports, available from their website during January.

Areas for dog owners to focus on include:

 – Proper management of parasites such as fleas, ticks and dog worms
– Breed and lifestyle matching dog nutrition
– Proper, intelligent dog training strategies
– Mental stimulation for dogs
– Appropriate levels of exercise
– Dog joint care

London / March 3, 2011 — K9 Media Ltd, a leading pet publishing company, has announced it is to re-brand as Total Pet Publishing.

The move comes as the firm makes further in roads in to international markets and as the publishing division incorporates more brands in the general pet sector rather than just dog.

 K9 Media's Kim O'Meara on the move:

"As we find the company performing more work for international clients, we have felt for some time that there is a strong need for us to clearly communicate the fact that we publish in all areas of the pet sector, not just canine.

Our experience has shown us that there is a growing demand in many international markets for information about pets and pet care and whilst K9 Media Ltd will always remain our company name, it made complete business sense to provide clients with a more all encompassing brand that better fits with the profile of our business in 2011. Ultimately, we're not just about dogs any more!"

Total Pet Publishing operates more than 300 individual titles aimed at pet owners, from the well known dog publications such as K9 Magazine, major pet services directories such as PetFriendlyWorld.com to more specialist brands such as Hypo-allergenic Dog Food and even sites dedicated to topics as highly defined as Cushings Disease in Dogs

Total Pet Publishing is delighted to announce the launch of a new website from canine nutrition division.

Hypo-allergenic dog food is our first move in to the area of information and advice provision catering for specialist diets for dogs.

The site is an independent, free to use resource for people searching for advice and information on feeding their dog an allergy free diet, providing the growing number of dog owners who are looking to provide the absolute best match nutrition for their family pet.

On the launch, Total Pet Publishing's Charles Vincent said:

"We have watched with great interest the rising number of searches conducted across our network and the web in general for information on feeding a specialist canine diet, particularly allergy free dog foods as well as wheat free diets.

The aim of the this site is to become the leading source for independent, honest, straight forward information for those people who are in the process of researching hypo-allergenic dog food."
